 .
Those we have lost this year duly remembered:
We’ve lost so many this year, perhaps more a sign of the age group I  / we are in…
Maurice White – Maurice was a true pioneer, trail blazer and founder of one of the last great big bands: Earth Wind & Fire.
I have appreciated the varied, skilled and positive grooves Maurice brought us through out most of my life.
Prince – On Prince I could write for days, one of the greatest performers, musicians and composers of the last 100+ years, his influence touched so many genre’s we now take for granted to the point that his full significance may be lost on the generations who were not around to see his full impact being gradually cemented into the foundation of what followed in so many genres from Hip Hop, House, Soul, 2Step, Slow Jams Neo Soul and Rock and EDM to name a few. Also a great Jazz spirit. Thankfully Prince was so prolific and left us a huge body of work.
David Bowie – I wasn’t a massive Bowie fan, but I was a fan, more of his material beyond his biggest ‘Ziggy’ hits period.  I admired his style and vision, a true performance artist right up to the last second of his life.
Scotty Moore – The raw sound of Scotty’s guitar was one of the players that made me want to play the guitar. I was lucky enough to meet Scotty and discuss guitar playing with him, a priceless experience for me.
Rod Temperton – A true UKSoul, Jazz-Funk and UK songwriting pioneer.
George Michael – George was many things to many people, including a suburban Soulboy and Soul DJ at one point, and also a great UK singer songwriter who’s Soul influence could often be heard in his music.
Rudy Van Gelder – A pioneering producer of my favourite record label, Blue Note Records.
Norman Mayers – Norman was a kindred spirit over in LA, USA supporting KTF from afar with his “Nu Soul Mag” and putting on comparable events over there in LA.
.

& just some of the many others we lost this year duly remembered:

Sharon Jones, Stanley Dural (Buckwheat Zydeco), Natalie Cole, Dave Mancuso, George Martin, Prince Buster, Phil Chess,
Nicholas Caldwell, Otis Clay, Clarence “Blowfly” Reid, Willie B Holland, Vanity aka Denise Matthews, Phife Dawg, Larry Payton, Leon Haywood, Billy Paul, Reginald Torian, Marshall “Rock” Jones, Wayne Jackson, Jerome Teasley, Bernie Worrell, Allan Barnes, Toots Thielemans, Clifford Curry, Trisco Pearson, Kashif, Jimmy Williams, Leon Russel, Colonel Abrams, Joe Ligon, Alphonse Mouzon, Mic Gillette, Bobby Peterson, Robert Stigwood, Bongo Eddie Folk, Papa Wemba,
Nicole Ferraz, Colin Favor(missed Colin in last years’ list).   R.I.P.
.
.
Looking ahead to 2017:    Please keep an eye & ear out for these 2 great performers:
Cynthia Erivo & Jodie Abacus – both have blessed a KTF stage
earlier in their careers & it seems now is the time many more will
know about their entertaining talents. Good luck to all the
music creatives still pushing out there.
.

Thanks for the music everyone.

.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading these charts over the years.
Thanks for reading and listening.

“What is there not to say about “The Songstress?” Talented
singer-songwriter, incredible live performer, revered platinum-selling
artist, Grammy® nominated and after over a decade in the music game,
Marsha Ambrosius is still here. Telling her story, captivating
audiences with a perfected freshness and proving that good music will
always prevail. Now two years after her solo debut Late Nights & Early
Mornings, Marsha Ambrosius is ready to take you on a journey once
again with her highly-anticipated sophomore album Friends & Lovers.Hailing from Liverpool, England, fans first got a taste of Marsha’s
talent as the singing half of the duo Floetry. Their 2000 debut
Floetic produced signature singles like “Say Yes” and “Getting Late”
as well as four Grammy nods. Following the 2005 release of their
second studio album, Flo’Ology, the ladies veered creatively and
personally. While the split was difficult, Marsha continued to build a
name for herself as a songwriter and producer, penning “Butterflies”
for the late Michael Jackson and other hits for artists such as Alicia
Keys, Justin Timberlake, Jamie Foxx and Nas, and was honored by BMI as
their Songwriter of the Year.In 2009 Marsha signed to J Records and her solo debut Late Nights &
Early Mornings was released in 2011. The album debuted at #1 on the US
Billboard Hot R&B Charts and #2 on the US Billboard Hot 200 behind
Adele and ahead of Mumford & Sons; the first time in over 20 years
that British Acts had topped the US charts. The album also produced
hit singles “Hope She Cheats On You” and “Far Away” which landed
Marsha two more Grammy® nods for a total of six nominations. She also
won the Centric Award at the 2011 BET Awards, won Record of The Year
(Ashford & Simpson Songwriters Award) at the 2011 Soul Train Awards
for “Far Away,” and capped off 2011 with a performance at the White
House for The President and First Family at The National Christmas
Tree Lighting. Marsha was also nominated for Best Female R&B Artist at
the 2012 BET Awards.Dedicating most of her 2012 to making new magic in the studio, Marsha
kicked of 2013 with a string of critically acclaimed live shows and
released new single “Cold War,” produced by Diplo and Maxime Picard,
the first single from her new album Friends & Lovers. Marsha calls the
album an autobiography of her past relationships. “Friends & Lovers is
to be listened to responsibly,” Marsha jokingly says. “Because you
don’t know who will end up becoming a friend or will end up being a
lover. It might be the wrong one so that whole album explores the
decisions that were made in my life that made these songs possible.”Marsha Ambrosius on Youtube:

ABOUT JULIE DEXTER:
Julie Dexter is a world renowned, award winning, British vocalist considered by many to be one of the most influential female vocalists of our generation. Having shared the spotlight with a host of cutting-edge artists, including Mint Condition, Jill Scott, Bilal, Omar, Loose Ends, Rachelle Ferrell, Ledisi, Eric Roberson and Raheem DeVaughn to name a few, Julie not only holds up her own with them but has been praised and respected by them too.

Born and raised in Birmingham, England, this classically trained artist composes and arranges her own music. Influenced by legends such as Nancy Wilson, Abbey Lincoln, and Bob Marley, as well as popular icons Omar and Sade, Julie takes classic soul to the heart of Artistry. Fans and critics across the globe have followed her journey through the circles of Jazz, Broken-Beat, Bossa-Nova, Reggae, Afro-Beat and Soul. Her dynamic voice was first heard in 1994 on “The Jamaican Beat” Vol 1 with Jazz Jamaica then later in 1997 on Dune Records’ release of J-Life, a European Jazz quintet formed by Gary Crosby and led by Jason Yarde. She later toured several continents with Jazz legend Courtney Pine as the lead vocalist for his ensemble. It was in 1999 that Julie took a leap of faith and moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she now resides. She launched her own label, Ketch A Vibe Records and in 2000 released the critically acclaimed EP Peace of Mind, followed by Dexterity (2002) , and Conscious (2005). Moon Bossa, a collaboration with Khari Simmons was released in 2007 and her single “Ketch A Vibe” was featured in national radio ads for Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Barrack Obama.

From Jazz to World Music, Soul and beyond, Julie Dexter is one of an elite few whose talent can transcend genres. She makes it all work on her own terms, as an audaciously independent artist with an undeniable connection to her audience. Julie’s new album ‘New Again” was released in April 2011 to great critical acclaim – available from all good music stores now.
